Low Vision Focus

Louise and Vaishali first met during their medical training at UCL and later co-founded LVFocus in 2022, combining their shared backgrounds in ophthalmology with a belief in the importance of education and knowledge sharing.

Our aim is not simply to deliver lectures, but to create an evolving educational programme in which clinicians can learn from experienced professionals, ask questions, share perspectives and translate learning into everyday clinical practice. As LVFocus continues to grow, we hope to extend this educational network beyond East Africa, developing partnerships with eye-care professionals and organisations across other regions where accessible, high-quality continuing education can make a meaningful difference.

Miss Vaishali Lodhia MBBS BSc MSc FRCOphth

Vaishali is a UK-trained Consultant Ophthalmologist with specialist expertise in paediatric ophthalmology, strabismus and cataract surgery. She holds an MBBS and BSc in Medical Sciences with International Health from University College London, a Master’s in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Having grown up in Kenya, Vaishali developed an early interest in global health and the inequalities that can affect access to healthcare and education. During her postgraduate training, she contributed to the early development of Peek Vision, further strengthening her interest in innovative approaches to improving eye health in resource-limited settings.

Alongside her clinical work, Vaishali has a strong commitment to medical education and has taught at both local and international levels, including paediatric ophthalmology and simulation-based training in strabismus surgery. Vaishali is actively involved in postgraduate ophthalmic education, including teaching and preparing ophthalmology trainees for the Part 2 FRCOphth Oral Examination. She has also undertaken research across a broad range of ophthalmic conditions, with peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international meetings.

Bringing together her connections to Kenya, clinical experience and passion for global health and education. Through LVFocus, she hopes to make high-quality eye-health education more accessible, connect professionals willing to share their expertise with communities that can benefit from it, and encourage greater awareness of eye health from an early age.

LVFocus

Louise is a Swedish ophthalmologist with an international background in clinical ophthalmology, research and medical education. Having studied medicine at University College London before undertaking specialist ophthalmology training in Sweden, she has developed a particular interest in ocular oncology alongside broad experience across ophthalmic practice.

In 2019, Louise achieved the highest overall score in Europe in the European Board of Ophthalmology Diploma examination. Her interest in ocular oncology led her to clinical and research work at St Erik Eye Hospital and the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, including research in retinoblastoma and uveal melanoma. She has contributed to peer-reviewed ophthalmic research and has a strong interest in evidence-based clinical practice and education.

Through LVFocus, Louise is committed to creating opportunities for eye-care professionals to learn from one another, connecting clinical expertise across geographical boundaries and making high-quality eye-health education accessible to a wider range of professionals and communities.

As ophthalmologists, Louise and Vaishali bring their own clinical experience to LVFocus, but they know that two people can only reach so far.

We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of medical and eye-care professionals with experience across a wide range of common and rare eye conditions. By bringing together this collective expertise, we can provide communities with reliable, clinically informed education about eye health, including the signs and symptoms that should prompt them to seek professional care.

We are now growing our network of ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists and other qualified eye-care professionals who would like to contribute their knowledge and time.

Alongside this, we are building a library of speakers, topics and educational content, allowing us to develop targeted educational interventions for different communities and age groups.
