Professional Education
Learning from Leading Ophthalmic Professionals
LVFocus works with experienced ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists and other eye-care professionals to deliver accessible, clinically relevant education to colleagues in Kenya and beyond.
Our continuing medical education programme was established in collaboration with the Optometrists Association of Kenya (OAK), with teaching topics shaped by the needs and interests identified by participating optometrists.
While primarily developed for OAK members in Kenya, our online sessions have also welcomed eye-care professionals from neighbouring countries, including Uganda and Tanzania.
Our aim is not simply to deliver lectures, but to create an evolving educational programme in which clinicians can learn from experienced professionals, ask questions, share perspectives and translate learning into everyday clinical practice. As LVFocus continues to grow, we hope to extend this educational network beyond East Africa, developing partnerships with eye-care professionals and organisations across other regions where accessible, high-quality continuing education can make a meaningful difference.
Growing Our Community & REACH
There is always more to healthcare than meets the eye. Our aim is to build a growing community that connects medical expertise with the people and places where education can make a difference.
For Professional Organisations
Strengthening professional education through shared expertise.
If you represent an optometry association, professional body or eye-care organisation, LVFocus can work with you to develop high-quality continuing education shaped around the needs of your members.
Our approach starts by listening. We work with participating organisations to identify areas where their members would benefit from greater exposure to specialist knowledge and then draw upon our network of experienced medical and eye-care professionals to develop relevant teaching. Previous programmes have covered areas including low vision, glaucoma, myopia, paediatric ophthalmology, neuro-ophthalmology, contact lenses, orthoptics and retinal conditions.
Our volunteer speakers are experienced clinicians and educators, many of whom are leaders within their specialist fields, with a genuine desire to share their knowledge and experience with colleagues working in different healthcare settings.
Teaching is primarily delivered online, enabling us to connect professionals across geographical boundaries while making the best use of our volunteers' time. Sessions can be scheduled collaboratively at times that are convenient for participants and speakers, helping to minimise disruption to clinical and professional commitments.
Where appropriate, participating professional bodies may choose to recognise sessions within their own CME or CPD frameworks, subject to their local accreditation requirements.
If your organisation has identified areas where its members would benefit from deeper specialist knowledge, we would love to hear from you and explore how LVFocus could support your educational programme.
For Eye-Care Professionals
Share your knowledge. Extend its impact
As ophthalmologists, Louise and Vaishali bring their own clinical experience to LVFocus, but they know that two people can only reach so far.
We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of medical and eye-care professionals with experience across a wide range of common and rare eye conditions. By bringing together this collective expertise, we can provide communities with reliable, clinically informed education about eye health, including the signs and symptoms that should prompt them to seek professional care.
We are now growing our network of ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists and other qualified eye-care professionals who would like to contribute their knowledge and time.
Alongside this, we are building a library of speakers, topics and educational content, allowing us to develop targeted educational interventions for different communities and age groups.
If you are an eye-care professional who shares our passion for education and would like to get involved, we would love to hear from you. The more expertise we can bring together, the more communities we can reach.
