Building an understanding of eye health from an early age

Eye-health education doesn't need to begin in a clinic.

LVFocus is developing an outreach programme designed to introduce children to eye health in an engaging, accessible and age-appropriate way.

Our first school session was delivered to Reception-aged children and explored the importance of looking after their eyes and having their vision checked.

Working alongside an anaesthetist, we also used interactive role play to take the children through what might happen if they needed to come into hospital for an eye operation – from meeting the clinical team to having an anaesthetic and undergoing treatment.

By allowing children to ask questions, explore medical equipment and experience aspects of the hospital journey through play, we hope to make healthcare feel more familiar and less intimidating.

For Schools & Early Years Educators

Help children understand their eyes from an early age.

We believe that understanding eye health should begin early. Simple, engaging education can help children understand why their vision matters, why eye checks are important and what to expect when they encounter eye-care or hospital services.

LVFocus is developing a network of globally connected medical and eye-care professionals who share this commitment to education. Many work internationally, travel regularly or relocate throughout their careers, creating opportunities to take eye-health education into schools in different communities around the world.

We may not yet have a volunteer available in every location, but we want to hear from schools and early years education providers interested in hosting an LVFocus session. By building a network of interested schools alongside our growing professional community, we can identify opportunities to connect the two.

Where a suitable volunteer is available, we will work with the school to ensure that the professional delivering the session is appropriately qualified and has the safeguarding clearances required by the school and local jurisdiction.

For Eye-Care Professional

Share your knowledge. Extend its impact

As ophthalmologists, Louise and Vaishali bring their own clinical experience to LVFocus, but they know that two people can only reach so far.

We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of medical and eye-care professionals with experience across a wide range of common and rare eye conditions. By bringing together this collective expertise, we can provide communities with reliable, clinically informed education about eye health, including the signs and symptoms that should prompt them to seek professional care.

We are now growing our network of ophthalmologists, optometrists, orthoptists and other qualified eye-care professionals who would like to contribute their knowledge and time.

Alongside this, we are building a library of speakers, topics and educational content, allowing us to develop targeted educational interventions for different communities and age groups.
